What To Expect

Barzan towers also known as the Umm Salal Mohammed fort Towers are watchtowers that were built in the late 19th century and renovated by 1910 by Sheikh Mohammed bin jassim Al Thani. They are located at the southern side of the defensive system established at the end of the 19th century and start of the 20th century to protect the 'rawdat', a valley where precious rainwater is collected when it flows down from hifger ground. In Arabic "Barzan means high place".

Al Zubara Fort
Al Zubara Fort was originally built by sheikh Absullah bin Jassim Al Thani in 1938 to serve as a Coast Guard station, although some direction of that it was built to serve as a police station. It was later renovated into museum to display diverse exhibits and artworks, most especially for contemporarily topical archaeological findings.

Purple Island - Al Khor Island
Al Khor Island, also known as Jazirat bin Ghanim and purple island is an Island located in the municipality of Al khor on the northeast coast of Qatar. It accommodates the only archaeological site in the country attributable to the second millennium BC.

Al Khor
Older than Doha but far smaller in size. It used to be the center of the pearling industry in Qatar but lost its importance after the introduction of cultured pearls. It now boasts a scenic harbour where you can find traditional fishing dhows, a corniche leading to mangrove colonies and a museum showcasing the fishing, pearling and dhow building industries.
